Spaceyard Release
Spaceyard Complete!
A project spanning September 2020 - January 2021, the multiplayer turn-based strategy game is done! Just about every facet of the game has been reworked, optimized, and improved in this release, and we’re finally at a point where we’re happy to see it out in the wild. Have fun mining asteroids, shooting friends, and building the best ship the universe ever did see.
Note that this isn’t version 1.0! We’re by no means killing the game - quite the opposite, in fact. We have an entire list of future improvements, features, and optimizations ahead of us, but we want to take a break and work on some other projects before we get into the weeds on it.
New In 0.3
What could a game about space be without, well, space? This update focuses on adding several new mechanics to the game, along with providing some massive UI overhauls as well
Features
- New Tiles and Materials! Improve your tunneling abilities with drills, lower the cost of transformations with booster tiles, and much more!
- Space Station! A space station spawns at the center of every standard map! It starts out with a protective shield, but give it enough time and you might just find something good….
- New Map! The classic experience can still be found in the Yard map, but now there is also a special Arena that removes all asteroids, and is filled with structures that let you get right to the action.
- Tile Effects! You’ll find out pretty quickly that all of those advanced resources now need a Mining Core in order to put a dent in them…
- New Dead Ships spawn around the map! Mine them for resources, or merge with them to get a head start in the game.
- Space Storm! There’s now a storm that encloses on the map as time goes on. Get caught in the storm, and you won’t make it out.
UI
- New Tile inspector that shows tile properties and indicates the resources that you can get by breaking it.
- New Ship Display that shows all of the information that you’d need to know about your ship. Health, mass, thrust, and more!
- All of the actions are now enclosed in a single bar that is displayed during your turn. No more cycling between tabs to move your ship!
Balancing
- The mass of your ship is no longer determined by the number of parts on your ship, but is instead handled on a tile-by-tile basis. Frames are light, but you better be prepared before you use iron blocks for defense
- Quantities and types of resources in several tiles have been redone - make sure to check them out before you try to craft some go-to recipes!
- Action Point costs have been reworked to be focused on certain ship properties. Rotation and reflection depend on ship radius, movement depends on mass, and other adjustments.
